DE L’AUTRE CÔTÉ DE LA RUE

De l’Autre Côté de la Rue est une collaboration entre les villageois de la Maison Emmanuel, une communauté thérapeutique au service de personnes ayant des besoins particuliers, et huit artistes de la relève. Les oeuvres ont été créées lors d’ateliers de céramique dirigés par Maggie Roddan ainsi que dans le cadre d’un cours d’arts imprimés supervisé par Bonnie Baxter. Inspirée par l’éthos de la Maison Emmanuel, cette collaboration singulière propose une éloge de la neurodiversité à travers la création d’un monde parallèle où la figure de la poule questionne notre regard sur la différence. En invitant le spectateur à s’immerger dans cet univers, l’exposition souhaite célébrer la richesse des rencontres et souligner l’importance d’oeuvrer ensemble dans un esprit d’interconnectivité.
WHAT DID THE CHICKEN FIND, WHEN IT GOT TO THE OTHER SIDE OF THE ROAD?
L’Autre Coté de la Rue brings together works made by Maison Emmanuel villagers in the ceramics studio led by Maggie Roddan, and emerging print artists from Concordia University studying with Bonnie Baxter. The exhibition showcases the results of this lively collaboration. Eight Concordia students had the opportunity to learn beyond the context of the classroom and Montréal, takeing inspiration from the environment of Val-David, and especially the ethos of Maison Emmanuel: a therapeutic community which serves those with special needs. Known for the unique character of their colourful and endlessly creative ceramics, those working in Maison Emmanuel’s ceramic studio have been equally challenged; expanding their artistic practice into new materials, scale, and in relation to others: creating life size sculptures, small site-specific scenes and storylines which are at the heart of this exhibition.
In the celebration of neurodiversity and the deep value of the art making process as a communicator of inspiration and emotion, this event captures the wonderful and unexpected outcomes of encounters with others, working together in the spirit of connection.
The exhibition was presented at Galerie POPOP, in May 2017.
