Invitation to the “FINISSAGE” of the exhibition “BONNIE BAXTER, collection of the archives of l’Atelier de l’île – 1977-1998″ at Espace Atelier on the island of Val-David, Saturday, February 9, 2019, 14:00 to 16:00and sale of her work Soy la Serpiente (Bonnie Baxter, 1990. Engraved wood, 100 cm x 75 cm) for the benefit of l’Atelier de l’île.
During the year 2018 and early 2019, well-deserved tributes are paid to the artist engraver Bonnie Baxter of Val-David. Ms. Baxter was awarded the “Grand Prix Soleil” at the 29th edition of the 2018 Laurentian Grands Prix des Grands Prix, awarded every five years to a leading artist for her entire national and international career ( his predecessors being Gilles Vigneault and Robert Charlebois).From November 25 2018 to January 27 2019, in celebration of it’s 40th Anniversary, the Musée d’Art Contemporain des Laurentides (MAC LAU) under the curation of Jonathan Demers, presented the exhibition « Bonnie Baxter – PRÉSENT PASSÉ FUTUR », a presentation of three of her series from the last 10 years – Jane’s Journey (2008), The Tragic and Premature Death of Jane (2016) et RatKind (2018). On until March 2nd 2019 at the Atelier-Galerie A. Piroir de Montréal is also presenting «BONNIE BAXTER RATKIND ».
And now the Atelier de l’île of Val-David is pleased to present « BONNIE BAXTER, collection des archives de l’Atelier de l’île – 1977-1998 » (and recent work) and to hold a « FINISSAGE » for the exhibition Saturday the 9th of February from 2 pm to 4pm.
Bonnie Baxter was one of the first members of Atelier de l’île in 1975, where she began her career in print. In addition to the exhibition, Mrs. Baxter generously offers one of her wood engravings from 1990: Soy la Serpiente (1990, 100 cm x 75 cm.) for the benefit of the Atelier de l’île in the amount of $ 1,600.
The file « Le 18 juillet 2015 – FAIRE IMPRESSION AU ROULEAU COMPRESSEUR », from Director, Nicole Deschamps will be presented during the «Finissage ». The film recounts the preparations, training, and realization of 40 wood engravings under the artistic direction of Bonnie Baxter, and printed on July 18, 2015 in the public square of Val-David with the help of a real steamroller.
The exceptional work of the Atelier de l’île team in organizing their 40th anniversary, this event and the exhibitions that have resulted in recent years throughout Quebec, has been rewarded with the “Ambassador’s Award” in 2018 from the Conseil de la culture des Laurentides.
L’Atelier is situated at 1289, rue Jean-Baptiste-Dufresne, in Val-David (at the heart of the village near the bicycle trail).
